Workshop in Bishkek May 2012

A two-day workshop was organized on June 28 and 29 in Bishkek, at CAIAG Institute. Goal of the workshop was the definition of the guidelines for compiling the EMCA seismic zonation for the Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) in Central Asia. Experts from different central Asian countries (i.e. Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan) and Germany compared the different national seismic zonation maps with the aim of finding a strategy to build the new regional map. An expert (Dr. R. Basili) from SHARE project also attended to the workshop, sharing with the participants the experience gained during the ongoing project for the new probabilistic hazard assessment in Europe. The main outcome of the meeting was the agreement among the participants on creating the EMCA zonation map starting from the 1995 regional map, which will be updated with information taken from the different national maps.
